gmail and censorship

ten minutes ago, i discovered that my gmail wouldn't work - china often randomly censors all google websites (so why does blogger.com work? dunno, go figure...i can post on my blog, but i can't actually see it). i thus logged onto athena (yay!) and stopped my email forwarding. while waiting for the mail server hubs to update themselves to reflect the change, gmail started working. what did i do? i went right back to athena and started forwarding my mail to gmail again. fickle, yes.

by the way, i apologize for my lack of posts. i've been writing in my travel journal, but i haven't had time to go to the university building where they will register my computer and (finally) give me internet access. luckily, not everything is different in this country, where you tell people you don't speak chinese and they try to speak more chinese to make you understand better, and my ethernet cable works here. right now, i'm sitting in an internet cafe, and i'm going to type up my travel journal and backdate the posts here.
